Brandywine Tomato is a legendary heirloom variety cherished for its large, meaty fruit and unparalleled flavor. The tomatoes are a deep pink color, with a smooth texture and rich, sweet taste that makes them perfect for fresh eating, slicing, or adding to gourmet dishes. Each fruit can weigh 1-2 pounds, offering a generous harvest of high-quality tomatoes. Thriving in full sun and nutrient-rich, well-draining soil, Brandywine plants are indeterminate and require staking or caging for support as they grow. Maturing in about 80-90 days, this variety is highly productive, providing consistent yields throughout the season. Brandywine Tomatoes are often regarded as the gold standard of heirloom tomatoes, delivering a complex flavor profile that’s both sweet and tangy. Their size, flavor, and versatility make them a favorite for home gardeners and tomato enthusiasts. Whether you’re enjoying them in salads, sandwiches, or simply with a sprinkle of salt, Brandywine Tomatoes are a true garden treasure.

Tomato - Red Brandywine - Lycopersicon lycopersicum

Tender Annual Indeterminate. Heirloom. Brandywine has large (up to 16 ounce), semi-flattened, deep-red fruit on large vines. Its yield is moderate and the fruit is often variable, but the flavor is excellent. This Amish heirloom dates from the 1880s.

Did You Know? Research shows that protective effects of tomatoes against prostate cancer and cardiovascular disease result from the synergy of lycopene with other phytonutrients naturally present in whole tomatoes. Lycopene is highest in organically grown tomatoes.

Soil & Water: Tomatoes love fertile soil rich in organic matter. Add plenty of compost prior to planting. Soil pH is preferred between 5.5-7.0. Soak the soil 4"-6" deep at 7-day intervals.

Planting & Growing: Sow seeds in flats 6-8 weeks before the last frost and thin to 2" apart after the first true leaves appear. Before transplanting after the last frost, harden off the plants by placing them outdoors for a few hours to start, increasing the amount of time each day until they are accustomed to a full day of sunlight.

Harvesting & Storage: Harvest when individual fruits give slightly under finger pressure; the shoulders may not have changed color yet.
