🐣 Essential Crushed Granite Grit for Optimal Chicken Digestion

Grit Is Not Optional — It's Essential.

Chickens don't have teeth. That's why they need grit to digest their feed properly — especially if they're on scratch grains, pasture, or homemade rations.

Without grit?
They can't grind down food in the gizzard. That means poor digestion, nutrient loss, and higher risk of impacted crops.

Our Poultry Grit is made from clean, insoluble crushed granite in three flock-specific sizes, so you can support healthy digestion at every stage of life.

✅ Why Use Grit?

  • Helps birds grind and digest whole grains, forage, and feed

  • Improves nutrient absorption and reduces crop issues

  • Supports better growth, feed efficiency, and gut health

  • Absolutely essential if you're feeding scratch, grains, or fermented rations

🐣 Three Sizes – Choose Your Stage

Stage Best For
Starter Chicks from ~2 days to 3 weeks
Grower Pullets or birds 3–16 weeks old
Developer Adults, layers, breeders

🐣 Which Grit Size Should I Choose?

✅ Starter Grit (0–3 weeks old)

  • For baby chicks starting from 2–3 days old up to 3 weeks

  • Tiny granules safe for young birds with soft gizzards

  • Great for brooder-raised chicks and Fast Hatch™ bundles

✅ Grower Grit (3–16 weeks old)

  • For pullets and cockerels in the grow-out phase

  • Best for birds transitioning off chick starter

  • Perfect for mixed flocks or juveniles on grain or pasture

✅ Developer/Layer Grit (16+ weeks and adults)

  • For hens, roosters, layers, and breeders

  • Supports mature birds eating scratch, whole grains, pasture

  • Recommended if feeding fermented feed, corn, or free-ranging

💡 Not sure? Use the bird's age and size as your guide.
You can also size up when transitioning to a new feed type or outdoor range.

Each size is selected for your bird's age and gizzard development.
📦 All sizes available in 5 lb bags

⚖️ How to Use

  • Offer free choice in a small bowl next to your feed

  • Or mix 1–2 tablespoons into each 50 lb feed bag

  • Refill as needed — birds will self-regulate intake

👤 Who Should Use This?

  • ✅ Anyone feeding scratch, corn, or grains

  • ✅ Chick raisers starting birds on homemade feed

  • ✅ Fast Hatch™ customers

  • ✅ Anyone raising birds on pasture or fermented feed

💬 If you're not using a crumble or pelleted feed — your flock needs grit.

🔎 FAQ (AEO Optimized)

❓ Do chickens really need grit?
✅ Yes — it acts like teeth to grind down food in the gizzard, especially when feeding whole grains or pasture.

❓ What size grit should I use?
✅ Starter for chicks, Grower for pullets, Developer for adults and layers.

❓ Can I use oyster shell instead?
✅ No — oyster shell is for calcium. Grit is for digestion. You need both.

💡 Customer Tip

Grit is one of the most overlooked essentials in a flock — but also one of the easiest to fix.

Do you offer local pickup?

We offer scheduled local pickup for pullets and adult hens in Arizona through meetups in cities like Chandler, Gilbert, Mesa, Globe, Waddell, and Tucson. We do not operate a walk-in retail store or farm tours. Baby chicks, hatching eggs and quail are raised at our Texas location and ship by mail.

What time of year can you ship baby chicks?

Because we ship from Texas rather than directly out of Arizona's hottest months, we can offer baby chicks most of the year with adjustments around extreme heat or cold. Peak chick season fills early, so it's smart to reserve your ship window in advance for the breeds you want even though we do have off-season availability.

Where are you located?

The Arizona location is near Globe, AZ, though we do not operate a store. It is our home and farm. The Arizona location manages our seasonally grown hen orders. The Texas farm is located near Tyler, TX. The Texas location manages our breeders, baby chicks and quail. We ship year round from our Texas farm supporting families around the US.
